New Logo, who dis?
It all started when I looked in the mirror and thought to myself, “Wow I have now defining features other than my messy hair, my big nose, and my bright orange hat!” All jokes aside I’ve always had an affinity with logos that were silhouetted or could easily be turned into silhouettes, think Apple, Twitter, or Air Jordon and Nike. These logos are easy to define and recognize, can be recoloured to meet their needs, but keep the same recognizable figure, and are almost timeless in their nature. (I don't see Micheal Jordon and Nike ever giving up on the Jumpman Logo).
So how exactly did I make my logo? Well, the process started with an idea in a Multimedia class, the very same that helped me make this website! (Shout out Joy Covey for being awesome!) In the class, we were tasked with creating a logo for our brand and after some hard thinking and inspiration from the content shown in class I finally narrowed it down to an idea: An aperture sign with my name around it! Now after realizing that every photographer online has had an aperture in their logo at least once I decided to move past this and go on to a better idea. (That last bit was a joke and I mean no offence to anyone with an aperture in their logo ♥) What I actually did was play around with the idea that came from a friend when talking about how my orange hat really stood out and was how he always found me in a crowd. Now I’ve always worn a hat around since I can remember so the idea of having a hat in my logo was an interesting idea for sure and with orange being my second favourite colour, only to blue, it was all starting to come together.
Once I had the idea for the logo, I needed to think of how I wanted to execute it. Did I want to ask my very talented girlfriend to draw the logo for me? It was a good idea but a bit too time-consuming and honestly I had realized that I had a much easier way to get it done. Joy had shown a way she had gotten an easy silhouette by poorly exposing a person in front of a window and by using the Image Trace tool in Adobe Illustrator I learned about from Digital Class (Shout out to Trevor Pearson for also being very awesome!) I could take the image I had taken a create a quick vector that could be resized to any size I needed for a logo. Once I cleaned up the vector of my silhouette then I could start the fun part of adding colour and the other design elements.
After a lot of playing around with which direction I wanted the logo to be facing, if I wanted to put the logo in a circle and if I wanted to have my hoodie on or off in the final design I finally came to the conclusion to use the logo which you have seen around the website and below. For the font I went with the Permenant Marker font as it’s bold and the written style fits the feel of the logo that I wanted to give off. My favourite part of the logo is how I can now play around with the colour of the beanie, what style of hat I wear, like for the Christmas season coming up I hope to make an updated Christmas spirit version to use on my socials.
I hope this little insight into how I came up with and made my logo was interesting and fun to read! If you have any questions or want to share what you think comment below!
